IAQ Index is a health-based, easy-to-understand, air quality index that is uniquely assigned to each kit after laboratory analysis. First, a numerical index is calculated based on the results from all the individual parameters analyzed from the kit samples; and then a single descriptive, color-coded rating is assigned that summarizes the kit's findings.

How should the overall color code be interpreted?
- Green: A "Green" code is given when all parameters are found to be in the "Good" range. This corresponds to an IAQ Index of 100.
"Green" codes are assigned to individual parameters when the measurement is within the range where no irritation or toxic effects would be expected to be experienced by individuals (even those that are most sensitive) exposed routinely to these levels.
- Yellow: A "Yellow" code is given when one or more parameters are found to be in the "Marginal" range. This corresponds to an IAQ Index of 70 to 90.
"Yellow" codes are assigned to individual parameters when the measurement is slightly-to-moderately elevated. Irritation may be experienced, especially in sensitive individuals, at these levels; but toxic effects are not expected.
- Red: A "Red" code is given when one or more parameters are found to be in the "Poor" range. This corresponds to an IAQ Index of 65 or below.
"Red" codes are assigned to individual parameters when the measurement is highly elevated. Significant irritation and/or some toxic health effects may be experienced by more sensitive individuals exposed to these levels.
- Black: A "Black" code is given when one or more parameters are found to be in the "Toxic" range. An IAQ Index of zero ("0") is automatically assigned if any parameter is in this range.
"Black" codes are assigned to individual parameters when the measurement is higher than an established toxicity threshold. Individuals exposed to these levels may experience high levels of discomfort/irritation and/or serious toxic effects.

How are color codes assigned to the individual parameters?
The color codes are assigned according to the following table.

How is the IAQ Index calculated?
The IAQ Index starts at a rating of 100, and points are subtracted for parameters falling outside the Good, or Green, range.
Ten (10) points are subtracted for each parameter falling within the Marginal, or Yellow, range; with a maximum deduction of 30 (for "Marginal/Yellow" parameters).
Thirty-five (35) points are subtracted for each parameter falling within the Poor, or Red, range; until an IAQ Rating of zero (“0”) is reached.
Any parameter falling within the Toxic, or Black, range automatically causes the IAQ Index to be "0".
